Born in Fresno and raised in Selma, Ca to the parents of migrant field workers who came to California from the Matamores, Mx and Brownville, Texas area. Lu is the 6th of 9 children. As a child and teenager, Lu learned a strong work ethic by working alongside her siblings with her parents in the fields of the Central Valley. After graduating from Selma High School in 1991 she started her college education at Fresno State. It was here that she helped start a sorority and is a founding mother of Sigma Alpha Zeta. She is proud of the fact that her daughter, a recent grad of FSU, is also a sorority sister. Lu transferred to Fresno Pacific with a degree in Business Management and is currently the branch manager of Guild Mortgage Company where she has worked for 10 years. She is happily married and has 4 children.

She has been involved with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce since 2006 and in 2017 was awarded ambassador of the year. She became a board member in 2019 and currently the CCHCC Amigo Luncheon co-chair.
